Until a recent viewing of the film Food Inc, I did not realize how the food on my dinner plate was prepared before packaged and sent to the grocery store. The film was an definite eye opener to the abuse that animals endured before being slaughtered and the diseases caused by the unsanitary working conditions in the factories that prepare our food. I would recommend this documentary to anyone and everyone because not only is it educational but also informs the audience of how the food industry works in the U.S. After watching the film it can be said that the food that we consume on a daily basis is not prepared in a humane manor.
What I view as the biggest problem is the safety procedures that go hand in hand with the preparation of our food. The government is supposed to be overlooking the food industry to ensure that our food is safe to consume but that can be seriously debated upon especially after viewing the documentary Food Inc. The outbreaks of different diseases such as E coli and Mad Cow which has caused many deaths in the U.S can be the reason to why I believe the government has done a poor job of ensuring that factories are meeting the sanitation requirements to make foods consumable products. The film Food Inc. shared stories of peoples lives that were affected by the food industry and how one woman lost her first born child to the e coli disease. This should have been an eye opener to those government officials that control this aspect of the food industry, which usually is the USDA but there was no justice for this woman and her family for the loss of their son.
